Prerequisites

Content
The course is structured in four parts:
A. An introductory session will present the lesson plan, the pedagogical method for the organization of the following sessions.
B. The teaching will then be devoted to a general theoretical framework concerning cultural studies in general and cultural criminology in particular.
C. It will then be subdivided into several two-hour modules devoted to the presentation of group work that will aim at:
the presentation of a particular cultural field (theoretical perspectives, research already carried out on the subject, identification of the main questions, controversies and issues, etc.).
to an analysis of one or more illustrative cases of the theory seen during the course (analysis of documents, excerpts from fictions, documentaries, etc.).
The active participation of students will be required in the third part of the course.
D. A final session will conclude the teaching.

Teaching methods
The method will be based on an alternation between lectures, diffusion of audio-visual documents and presentations of works.
Evaluation methods
Attendance at this course is required. In accordance with article 72 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the Professor may propose to the jury that a student who has at least three unjustified absences for the course, be refused registration for the January, June or September session.
The evaluation aims to measure the acquisition of the learning outcomes specified above.
For this course, students are assessed on the basis of two types of works:
A. Compulsory group work presented orally by groups during the term = analysis, based on a reflexively developed reading grid, of the social, political and ideological elements at stake in one or more cultural productions related to crime and criminal justice (imposed themes). (70% of the final mark)
B. Compulsory personal work (in French) to be handed in at the end of the term = synthesis of a reading chosen by the student in relation to his/her collective work theme and cultural criminology (30% of the final mark).
The final grade is therefore the weighted average of the A and B grades. In the final grade, Part A is worth 14/20 and Part B is worth 6/20.

Other information
The main bibliography of the course and the media analyzed will be in English. It is therefore necessary to have a sufficient knowledge of English to participate.
Attendance is imperative at the first course scheduled for the first week of the school semester, but also at all other sessions. This is due to the specific pedagogy, which will be presented during the first session during which choices will be made for the rest of the course, involving the students.
Students who already know that they will not be able to attend the first class or who have difficulties in ensuring regular attendance are asked to switch to another elective course.
