Content
The seminar introduces students to interdisciplinary research on the relations between the media technologies and the practices, competences or knowledge developed by their users. It aims to teach students to critically read and discuss the scientific literature on these issues. In this sense, it constitutes a preparatory step for the completion of a personal assignment on a particular research question (cf. LCOMU2608). It is based on the analysis and discussion of scientific texts, particularly from the communication sciences and the educational sciences.
Teaching methods
The seminar is based primarily on the following two types of activity
  • Analysis and collective discussion of texts and experiments on the chosen themes, introduced by the students, based on a reading portfolio compiled each year according to the proposed themes;
  • Presentations by specialists (if the opportunity for visiting professors arises).
The group analysis and discussion of texts requires students to prepare a presentation for distribution and/or questions to be submitted during the session.
In the event that health measures related to covid-19 do not allow the seminar to be held face-to-face, the seminar sessions will be held remotely, using the Microsoft Teams tool.
Evaluation methods
Continuous evaluation.
Students are evaluated on the basis of their participation in the seminar:
  • submission of references of scientific texts likely to be presented in the seminar, corresponding to the theme of the year (10% of the final grade)
  • presentation of texts in the seminar and participation in the discussion of texts presented by others in the seminar (50% of the final grade)
  • written synthesis of the texts presented by the student in class (20% of the final grade)
  • formulation of an initial research question constituting the starting point for the work developed in the LCOMU2608 seminar (20% of the final grade)
In the case of a second registration for the exam, the student is evaluated on the production of a critical reading report of a set of scientific texts similar to those presented in the session, to be handed in for the registration session for the exam.
Other information
The seminar constitutes for the student one of the places of integration of the various teachings in the field of mediated communication of knowledge.
