Main themes
The research internship will allow the student to put his basic training into practice in a fundamental research project proposed by one or more laboratories of the UCL.
The student will not only discover how the knowledge acquired during his training can be used, but will also be confronted with the organization of a research team (teamwork, advantages and constraints, respect of rules).
This internship will represent the first research experience for the students.

Learning outcomes
At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
1 | - To sensitize the student to research careers ; - To develop the human qualities of integration, the spirit of initiative and the capacity of adaptation of the student to the professional environment (research laboratory) ; - To develop the student's motivation for research and to specify the choice of his/her orientation ; - To carry out a first learning of the application of theoretical knowledge and techniques learned during the courses ; - Acquire skills that are different from those acquired throughout the student's studies but directly related to them. The contribution of this course to the development and mastery of the skills and knowledge of the program(s) is available at the end of this sheet, in the section "Programs/training courses offering this course" |
Content
The internship in a research laboratory is a compulsory activity in the course of the student in chemistry with in-depth studies who does not go on an internship either outside UCL or abroad.
It will be done in the framework of a research team of the UCL.
The internship will be full-time, excluding attendance at lectures or practical exercises, and will take place in the second semester of the first year of the Master's program. The internship will be supervised by a supervisor in the host research team (internship promoter) who will be responsible for establishing a research program and for supervising the intern.
The choice of the host laboratory and its supervisor will be proposed to the student by the university supervisor.
Two weeks will be set aside after the end of the internship so that the intern can finalize his/her reports as well as his/her oral presentation which will be scheduled during the June and/or September session.

Evaluation methods
The internship gives rise to a written report following an outline set by the academic internship manager.
The final evaluation will be based on this document, as well as on the evaluation of the internship by the local "internship supervisor" and on an oral defense (presentation and questions) by a jury made up of academic members of the UCL.
