Main themes
Students carry out an internship in either a research or a professional sector. It corresponds either to activities proposed by members or teams based at UCLouvain, or to an individual project of the student. The latter is to be approved by the student’s supervisor.

Content
The internship provides an opportunity for awareness-raising, careful observation and participation in professional activities in a sector related to the disciplines taught in the master program, to test theory against professional practices in a particular field. It enables students to develop a critical reflection on the meaning underlying the actions of professionals in the fields concerned.
Students carry out their internship at UCLouvain and/or in an institution responsible for the scientific, administrative or museographic management of cultural heritage and/or complete it with one or more activities agreed with their academic supervisors. The internship lasts at most 6 weeks, according to the activities led. It is carried out in accordance with the disciplinary guidelines and specific procedures communicated to the students.
These arrangements can be adapted according to the sanitary rules applied in the host institutions or in the countries where the institutions are based.

Teaching methods
Practical training carried out in a host institution or on field by a university-approved internship supervisor, based on an agreement drawn up by the Commission de programmes d’archéologie et d’histoire de l’art. The internship takes place all along the Master and may be anticipated in accordance with the disciplinary guidelines and specific procedures communicated to the students.
These arrangements can be adapted according to the sanitary rules applied in the host institutions or in the countries where the institutions are based.
Specific arrangements for archaeological internships. A combination of activities is possible provided that at least one period of 10 cumulative days, consecutive or not, is spent in the same institution or on the same site and in accordance with the conditions of the host institutions (e.g.: unbreakable weeks, minimum working period imposed).
For students in the archaeology programme and in relation to the LARKO2241 and LARKO2242 Seminars of the Archaeological Sciences and Practices, taught in Professional focus: Archaeological theories, management and sciences, the internship includes at least 5 working days more specifically devoted to the management, conservation and enhancement of archaeological or natural science collections, to the study of archaeological objects or materials, to the processing and dissemination of research and expertise results (exhibition, portfolio or educational project, etc.). Therefore, the student is invited to carry out his/her internship outside the university, in national or foreign scientific institutions (laboratories and specialised scientific institutions, museums, public archaeological and heritage services, research centres, etc.).
These arrangements can be adapted according to the sanitary rules applied in the host institutions or in the countries where the institutions are based.

The validation of credits is done by means of the certificate(s) completed by the supervisor(s) who is/are responsible for the activities in the host institutions. The evaluation form is drawn up by the Commission de programmes d’archéologie et d’histoire de l’art. The internship is completed once 5 credits have been validated.
The evaluation combines the evaluation of the supervisor(s) at the host institution, weighted at 50% of the final grade, and the evaluation of the supervisor at UCLouvain, weighted at 50% of the final grade on the basis of the final report of the activities, submitted after having completed them all. Some activities recommended or authorised by the academic referee (e.g. participation in a conference, a congress…), a certificate of participation is to be delivered with the student's detailed critical report of the activity, also included in the final report.
The single final report follows the specific disciplinary instructions. It presents and discusses: the reasons for the student’s choice(s), a statement of his/her objectives, a description of the activities, a personal opinion on the experience, together with any useful appendices, bibliography and illustrations.
