Translating short samples of literary texts exhibiting different styles and drawn from different genres and authors in (or not in) collaboration with the teacher in charge of the Literature teaching unit.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

AA-FS-AL.Develop expertise and a high level of competence in literary translation in the broader sense and specifically producing original works or revising existing pieces that involve the use of language for aesthetic ends: translating literary works of fiction or texts pertaining to traditional genres; literature associated with the image and other artistic domains; translating texts for publication and (an option only available in certain languages) translation in the domains of 'Publicity & Marketing'.  
Specific learning outcomes on completion of teaching unit
On completing this unit the student is able to:
·         Translate a short literary text, selected from a given genre and author, from German into French, respecting the entirety of the semantic, linguistic and stylistic  content; 
Defend through argument the translation options effected.
 
Content
This teaching unit is a practical introduction to literary translation from German into French. Closely related to unit LTRAD2700 - Theory of Literary Translation, which teaches the theory of literary translation, it focuses on the core principles of the subject.
After being introduced to the rules of literary translation, the students will individually or collegialy translate a children's book and an excerpt from a novel for children or young adults from German into French. On completing this translation/adaptation/rewriting assignment, the students will be asked to argue their translation choices.
