In this course, we will look at migration issues from a gender perspective/gender issues from a migration perspective. To this end, the course will be structured as follows:
The first part will serve as an introduction to both migration phenomena (definition, measurement, evolutions, characteristics of male and female migration; transnational turn and the reciprocal influences between societies of origin and host societies) and to gender approaches to migration (genesis and main theoretical perspectives).
The second part will address more specific themes related to the migration issue from a gender perspective. The non-exhaustive list of themes that may be addressed in this course includes: the intersecting effects of gender and migratory status; the interconnections between gender, migration and the labor market; migration, care and family dynamics through a gender lens; beyond heteronomativity: LGBTQ+ migrants; youth from immigrant backgrounds: socialization processes and identity construction.
