Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Reading comprehension
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  • grasp the content and significance of articles and reports on topics connected with their interests or their jobs.
Level B2 of the « Common European Framework of References for Languages ».
Listening comprehension
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  • understand the gist of TV programmes concerning general topics and oriented towards their fields of interest in standard and clearly articulated English language.

Usage:
  1. revision and reinforcement of elementary and intermediate vocabulary in context,
  2. grammar revision
  3. phonetics
 
Content
LANGL1841 is a course involving coaching sessions, remedial classes and self tuition groups.
Moodle LANGL1841: This platform is used to propose online activities to all students. Those activities deal with topics connected with their studies. Thanks to online tests, students can also test their understanding of the grammar and vocabulary that they have to study.
Teaching methods
In the first term, the groups are divided as follows:

Students in this group are invited to attend the Aide à la Réussite programme on Teams (Canal teams Aide à la Réussite ILV).

Self-tuition groups
Evaluation methods
1. Compulsory Placement Test : at the beginning of the academic year, all students must take this ONLINE test (on Moodle). This test is the same level as the exam. On the basis of the results, students have access to the intensive or « normal » course/ coaching sessions.Top-ranked students (more than 14/20 at the placement test) will be invited to take an exemption test in the second week of the academic year. On the basis of the results, students can be exempted from the course and the final exam.
2.  First-Term Test (20%): at the end of the first term, students MUST take a test assessing the vocabulary (videos/texts), grammar and reading/listening skills covered in class. 
3. The Final (Written) Exam: The final exam takes place in May (cfr Moodle).
