Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

This unit contributes to the acquisition and development of the following learning outcomes, as assigned to the Master's degree in translation :

AA-FS-TL.To develop expertise and a high level of competence in the fields of terminology, terminotics, localisation, technical writing, and project management in translation and localisation, in order to be able to engage effectively in language service provision of this type.
Specific learning outcomes on completion of teaching unit
On completing this unit the student is able to:
·         Carry out the research necessary to gain a clear understanding in French of a subject in specialist language;
·         Unpack the logical connections of a text written in French in specialist language;
·         Reformulate technical information in writing,in such a way as to make it comprehensible for ordinary readers;
·         Summarise information in such a way that it fits within the limits of the space available;
·         Adapt information intended for paper aids so that it can be published online, taking into account register and various different recommendations.
 
Content
Students will :
- be introduced to the drafting of technical information for a general public, on different media;
- produce technical documents for a general public, i.e.: gather, read and analyze the information, draft and lay-out the text, develop the medium.

Lectures and practice sessions.
Individual and/or group assignments.
To prepare to the different sessions, students will be asked to research, gather and read material related to the topics dealt with in the course.
Evaluation methods

Summative assessment consisting in a portfolio of projects produced in French (leaflet, website, etc.)
September exam: written exam consisting in the producing of a project, similar to those carried out during the course sessions.
