AA-FS-TA. Develop expertise and a high level of competence in the field of adapting audio-visual material into French, from two foreign languages, with a view to participating successfully in the professional multilingual audio-visual sector.
Specific learning outcomes on completion of teaching unit
On completing this unit the student is able to:
· Transcribe, check or correct the script dialogue-list for the source material
· Sub-title audio-visual productions in miscellaneous domains and genres,
· Supply marketable productions, whether working independently or in a team.
The teaching unit will first focus on the analysis and the comparison of existing subtitles (already commercialised or available for free on the Internet) with the rules of subtitling.
Unlike more traditional translation work, one of the challenges of subtitling is to convey the maximum amount of information in a number of words defined by the amount of time available. The linguistic aspect (concision, accuracy, fluency, transition from the oral expression to the written text) of the subtitling work is as essential as the technical aspects.
