Main themes
In order to achieve this end,
- a group of non-canonical texts from the inter- or neo-testamentary period will be studied; the selection will be guided by the interest of these texts for the interpretation of the New Testament;
- these texts will be situated in their political, social, religious and literary context.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 - for the inter- or neo-testamentary period, either to situate historically and understand correctly non-canonical texts,
 
2 or situate in their socio-historical context some events, persons and movements.

Sects and parties at the time of Jesus
Sadducees, Pharisees, Essenes, Baptists... The list of sects and religious parties at the time of Jesus is long and in recent years substantial progress has been made in defining them. Starting from a collection of texts, this class will try to better understand them and to see what significance they may have had at the time of Jesus.

Evaluation methods

A 20-minute oral presentation to comment on a text studied in class.
