Content
The teaching unit presents two distinct domains (history 15h, analysis 22,5h) but perfectly integrated: each stage of the history of the music of the 17th and 18th centuries is followed by musical analysis sessions which allow to to deepen in the works themselves the historical aspects seen previously.
The works are thus placed in their musical and historical context and analyzed in detail, through guided and guided listening, with the support of scores.
Learning to analyze is done very gradually and technical updates are planned throughout the quadrimester for students who have reading difficulties. Student participation is solicited at each analysis session, informally. The exercises delivered by the students and corrected by the teacher or assistant (individual and progressive work) are an indispensable part of this learning process.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.
This is a teaching that has two major integrated parts:
- a historical part which details the major stages of baroque and classical music - This part provides a magisterial type of teaching (15h)
- a musical analysis part that addresses some of the works cited in the historical section (22.5h).
These two parts are closely associated. If the fields of teaching (history - analysis) remain distinct, the themes are common and the analyzes of the works are anchored on the teaching of history.

The exercises delivered by the students and corrected by the teacher or assistant (individual and progressive work) are an indispensable part of this learning process.
Evaluation methods
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.
The evaluation mode is twofold:
- continuous evaluation based on progressive analysis exercises carried out during the whole quadrimester (20% of the score);
- written examination on the historical and analytical part of the course (analysis on scores based on the practical exercises model made during the course) (70% of the grade).
Participation in the course is therefore strongly recommended, exercises are mandatory.
