Main themes
The course is concerned with questions of public law in relationship with social integration and solidarity. Only a limited number of themes are selected each year, so that a thorough analysis may be developped about each one. The handled questions may bear on the organization of fundamental rights in the Belgian society, or the implementation of the national solidarity process. The course can bring up, for example, problems such as the equality of social chances, the coexistence of various religions and languages, the housing policy, as well as the teaching system, the social welfare system, the employment policy or the ways of cooperating to the development of Southern countries.

1 This course aims at providing the student with : - a thorough knowledge of questions of public law in relationship with citizenship and cohesion between the various parts of European and Belgian society. It may tackle various fields as social assistance, education, philosophical and religious convictions ; - the ability to apply this knowledge to practical situations ; - the ability to formulate critical observations about the current law. The course is essentially concerned with the legal ways of social State intervention. It belongs to a coherent package of courses ("Finalité État et Europe"). The teachers make up a teaching team and consult each other to ensure the courses are truly complementary. If the number of students makes it possible, the course uses active teaching methods. The teacher resorts to numerous examples and brings the students to apply the rules to various practical cases.
