Prerequisites
The student must have attained competency level C1 of the Common European Framework for Languages (C1 - effective operational proficiency): he or she can comprehend a large number of non-specialized or semi-specialized texts, grasp implicit meaning and aspects of pragmatics as well as extralinguistic and cultural elements. He or she must possess an in-depth knowledge of both French and Dutch grammar and the different levels and registers pertaining to the two languages.

Contribution of teaching unit to learning outcomes assigned to programme This unit contributes to the acquisition and development of the following learning outcomes, as assigned to the Master's degree in translation : 1.5 2.1, 2.2, 2.6 4.3, 4.4 Specific learning outcomes on completion of teaching unit On completing this unit the student is able to: · Translate a text written in French into Dutch, respecting the requirements of the target audience as well as meaning and register, without mistranslations and displaying a high degree of mastery in both grammar and orthography. Make astute use of both internet dictionaries and encyclopaedias and similar aids in paper form. |

Teaching methods
Translation by students in class or at home. Each translation is corrected individually by the tutor and discussed in class.
Evaluation methods
Written examination at the end of each semester. Translation from French into Dutch on PC in Word document. Two short texts need to be translated, one with the help of online resources and another one without this support.
