Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :
1	confront him/herself in a personal and critical way with the reflection developed during the lectures about the Christian faith.
2	argue his/her position, showing that he/she is conscious of the complexity of the questions at stake, also when confronted with various philosophical and religious traditions.
3	clarify the complex relationship between Christian faith and modernity, paying attention to the different language' levels and to their relevance in the context of the reflection about the meaning of life.

“All About Evil”
The experience of evil is in the middle of the uncertainty of every person who comes to the limits of a perfect control of her life. How can we be interested in the fundamental questions of the sense or the nonsense of existence and avoid the pitfalls of fundamentalism? Religions do no longer have the monopoly on existential answers to the enigma of evil. The course will present religious discourses in close interaction with artistic expressions in order to test the strengths and the limits of a religious interpretation. Leonard Cohen’s last album – You want it darker (2016) – will be used as a starting point. Be sure that this course will not teach you “all about evil”. However, you can get some unexpected keys of understanding in order to stimulate your critical reflection in the encounter of contemporary culture.

Written exam in January 2020.
