Prerequisites
The prerequisite(s) for this Teaching Unit (Unité d’enseignement – UE) for the programmes/courses that offer this Teaching Unit are specified at the end of this sheet.
Main themes
The method of learning is a progressive one, using areas where the topic to observe or imagine mostly develops from the simplest level to the most complex, but is also repeated. The main topics for analysis are architectural, urban and landscape spaces. Apart from repeated testing of tools and their relevance, and the acquisition of basic skills in material practice and practice of doing a project, students gain greater awareness and memory through observation and analysis as well as individual experience of different media.
This teaching unit explores ideas behind inhabited space, its nature and the properties of architecture made tangible by representation. It forms part of this process of progressive and cumulative learning.
The topics covered in Means of expression and Representation 1: Introduction are reviewed, advanced and complemented:
- Outline
- Proportions
- Composition
- Orthogonal, cylindrical and conical projections of observed and projected space
- Observational drawing
- Expressive drawing
- communicative drawing.
