Main themes
This BA seminar is meant to be a way of putting into practice the general classes of methodology of the first and second bloc, and as a preparation to the master dissertation.
Allowing alternation and an annual change, the aim is to stimulate methodological reflexes by the student, his or her way to document and to critically consider a case study or theme. The themes that were started in LARKE1140 and LARKE1220 are reconsidered in more detail: description of archaeological objects and structures, vocabulary and terminology, heuristics, documentary typology, bibliographical reference system, material analysis, technological, stylistic, iconographic and typological analysis.

At the end of this seminar, the student will be able to produce a scientific work in which all the methodological assets of earlier classes such as LARKE1140 and LARKE1220 are integrated; he/she will also be able to practice in observation, analysis and in situ presentation. The student will also be able to put into practice what it means to be an archaeologist through the frame of a documentary study and the critical analysis of a specific archaeological question or theme. He/she will be able to realize a personal work on a given topic that will be based on a critical reading of sources and works, a synthetic spirit and a capacity to problematize. |

Content
Starting with a specific theme or case study, the different stages of information treatment are defined and determined during communal sessions. The assignments deal with various aspects of the theme or the case study. The results of the individual research assignments are combined during the presentation of the works by the students in a communal session during which special attention is given to methodology, heuristics and critical analysis. The global synthesis and conclusions are collectively produced.
Teaching methods
The seminar is based on the organisation of a week-long study excursion during which the active participation of the students is required: program of site visits conception, organisation and logistics, presentation of individual work results 'on site', etc.
The syllabus of the required class LARKE1140 is considered as known and the student should be able to apply its contents during the assignments of the present UE.
Continuity with LARKE1140 and LARKE1220: terminology in archaeology, identification and description of archaeological objects and structures, documentary typology and bibliographical references, material, technological, stylistic, iconographic and typological analyses.

Continuity with LARKE1140 and LARKE1220: terminology in archaeology, identification and description of archaeological objects and structures, documentary typology and bibliographical references, material, technological, stylistic, iconographic and typological analyses.
Evaluation methods
The evaluation of this activity is the mean of the marks obtained from three different sources:
a) a continuous evaluation on the basis of exercises, intermediary assignments over the two semesters and an active participation in the classes and the on-site seminar (20%);
b) the writing of a collective scientific synthetic work (assignment 1) which forms the object of an oral presentation in the classroom and a written text in December (1st semester) (30% respectively 10% for the oral presentation and 20% for the written essay);
c) an individual scientific work (assignment 2) which forms the object of an oral presentation during the on-site visit (April) and a written text in May (2nd semester) (50% respectively 25% for the oral presentation "in situ" and 25% for the final written essay).
The student's presence in seminars and participation is compulsory and will be verified. The student who does not present the integrality of his/her works, may be refused to register for the exams in June.
In case of a failure to the mandatory exam session in January, the student presents all of his/her assignments in the June session. If a student succeeds in the January session, he/she presents the assignment on the second semester in June and the final note will be combined. In case of a second inscription, the student is obliged to represent the entire work load of the running year, following modalities to be defined by the teachers.
