Structural analysis is a method of content analysis, which belongs to the broader group of qualitative methods. It deals with the mode of existence of meaning. In this course, we will focus on its application on discursive material (although it can also be applied for the analysis of images, for example). At the end of the course, students will have acquired the following competences:
- They will master the key epistemological principles of structural analysis (structural semantics)
- They will master, both theoretically and practically, the technical principles of structural analysis (disjunctive code, code of qualification, structures (parallel, subordinated, cross-like), scheme of the quest,...)
- They will be able to perform structural analysis of empirical materials (production of graphs, analytical comments)

Teaching methods

The method is introduced by the teacher in the first session. Most of the remaining sessions are dedicated to practical exercises. Students are put to work. It is expected that they actively participate in the course.

Evaluation methods

Assessment is by means of a written work. Students must write a syllabus explaining and illustrating the method using original materials chosen by them.
