AA-FS-TA. Develop expertise and a high level of competence in the field of adapting audio-visual material into French, from two foreign languages, with a view to participating successfully in the professional multilingual audio-visual sector.

 

Specific learning outcomes on completion of teaching unit

On completing this unit the student is able to:

·         Transcribe, check or correct the dialogue (script) of the source;

·         Translate a script from English to French with a view to dubbing, taking into account the specific constraints that this activity entails.

Content
This course aims to introduce the specificities of translating for dubbing. The following subjects will be covered: definition and historical background, the professional environment, the various steps in the dubbing process, quality and synchronism criteria. The theory will be illustrated by examples and coupled with exercises. 
Teaching methods
Compulsory workshops in the AVT computer lab.
Evaluation methods
Summative assessment at the end of the semester: an assignment to be handed in (60%) and a written on the portfolio of articles provided by the lecturers (40%).  
 
Other information
A minimum level of B2 is required in English in order to carry out the assignment and thoroughly understand the article portfolio.
