The lectures LGLOR1542 and LGLOR1541 are strongly advised but not compulsory.
Main themes
The theme will change according to the year. However, the approach will mainly be sociological, anthropological and political.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

This lecture aims at deepening the knowledge of Oriental and more especially of Indian Culture and Civilization. It will alternate with LGLOR2543 (Culture and Civilization of India and the Far East II).

Content
Various approaches will be proposed in relation to culture, politics and religion of the area under study. India will be privileged. Caste, untouchability, politics and popular religion will be among the different topics under study. The topic will be different from that of the alternating year LGLOR2543 (Culture and Civilization of India and the Far East II).

The students will be orally examined. Attendance to the lecture is compulsory. An essay on a specific topic may be also be required.
