Main themes
We examine the EU-Russia partnership from two main angles. Firstly, we look at the bilateral relations between these two powers: the economic, political and social arrangements characterising their relationship since the Maastricht Treaty. Most of this teaching is focused on conflict: ideological conflict (concerning values), trade conflicts (particularly trade in energy), and geopolitical conflicts (including the frozen conflicts in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus). EU-Russian relations are also examined in light of the major challenges in international relations: multilateralism, the environment, competition between major powers such as the United States and China, particularly with reference to the conflicts in the Middle East.
