At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |

This biennial course and course LCLIB2120 with which it alternates will make together make it possible:
¿ to apply the main principles of library science and bibliometrics,
¿ to understand the main functions of a library/multimedia library or of a resource centre, as well as the legal provisions relating to them,
¿ to create or to adapt the structure of a library/multimedia library or of a resource centre,
¿ to design and implement research tools suited to the public concerned,
¿ to remain up to date with developments in the discipline,
¿ to create a management dashboard for a library/multimedia library or for a resource centre,
¿ to analyse the expectations of the public concerned, to design and to put into practice a development plan
¿ to evaluate the management of a library/multimedia library or of a resource centre and its user-satisfaction level,
¿ to become familiar with the tools of document updating.

Content
' Introduction, link with LCLIB2125, major topics of library science.
' Library organisation and staff.
' Project management (logic model, outcome mapping, etc.)
' Bibliometrics: consideration of publics, research and impact measurement.
' Infrastructure, fixtures and fittings, learning centre, activity areas.
' Legal and regulatory framework: ISO standards, decrees and other important documents.
' Session devoted to work: presentation of audits, disputes, etc.
' Professional meetings (public reading service, etc.)
' Bibliometrics: dashboard, trend graphs, case studies, etc.
' Summary, conclusions, revision, individual and group work, etc.
Teaching methods
The 15-hour course will consist of 10 topic presentations picking out theoretical ideas and case studies. For certain topics, professionals will be invited and/or will be met. Topics will be approached through group work (library audits, disputes, 3 slides/3 minutes, etc.) and its interactive presentation in the class. Certain more theoretical topics will be prepared by the students in the form of research work in the professional literature and the tools of document updating.
Evaluation methods
Continuous assessment during the first semester will account for 40% of the final score; individual or group work will account for a total of 5 marks and individual documentary research work for 3 marks.
The oral examination during the session will account for 60% of the final score: the analysis of a case study with reference to notes allowed will amount to 6 marks, more theoretical direct questions will also amount to 6 marks.
