Main themes
The topics addressed during the classes aim at arousing the interests of young adults: we shall speak about hobbies, leisure, holidays, studies and possible future professions, daily life and contemporary events, trips and relations with others, and the culture (that is, the habits and customs) of the countries that speak the target language.

Content
The themes tackled in this learning unit will focus upon those which arouse the interest of young adults and refer to their hobbies, pastimes, holidays and future profession(s), their ordinary, everyday life, current affairs, travel and relationships with others and the culture (in the wide sense of human activity) of the countries whose language they are studying.
This course will concentrate upon both communicative aspects and formal language correction (at the level of pronunciation and grammar for example).

Teaching methods
60 hours of organized tutorial in small groups (25 students).
Presentation of the "basic texts" (articles and recordings) indicating the thematic areas to be addressed during the learning unit.

40 hours of personal study and work:
- systematic study of the vocabulary used, integrated in the listening and reading exercises;
- preparation of the listening, reading, and oral and written expression exercises;
- updating notes, revising, memorizing;
- review and systematic study of basic grammar (theory and self-learning exercises, to be done with the aid of review exercises available on the e-learning platform Moodle).
Evaluation methods
During the semester, the oral exercises will lead to a formative assessment.
The final assessment will comprise four parts reflecting the course objectives and will deal with the same themes as those already tackled (employing the material previously learned). The assessment of the course code (vocabulary and grammar) will be incorporated into the skills assessments (oral and written).
Various mandatory tests will be organised during the course of the semester in the form of a continuous assessment, both for the theoretical and the practical parts.

- Listening comprehension skills assessment (analytical and global): 30% of the marks.
- Reading comprehension skills assessment: 30% of the marks.
- Oral skills assessment: (individual and interactive): 20% of the marks.
- Written skills assessment: 20% of the marks.
