This biannual learning unit is being organized in 2017-2018

No prerequisite is required, but an upgrade in music playback is offered to students who have no basis in domaine.
Main themes
Knowledge of forms and genres of the most important (sonata form, fugue, suite of dances, theme and variation, da capo aria, rondo, etc.).. These are viewed in their cultural and historical context. The structure of these forms will be carefully analyzed, from music and scores.

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :


Introduction to basic forms and musical structures.

Analysis of some basic forms of music history (sonata form, fugue, rondo, suite of dances, aria da capo, etc.).. These are first placed in their musical and historical context are then analyzed in detail through guided listening and commented, with the support of scores.
Teaching methods
This class is both theoretical and practical, and is based on the listening of music extracts and their analysis on scores. The learning of musical analysis is very progressive and remedial sessions are scheduled during the whole semester for the students with difficulties reading music. Students are expected to take an active part in the classes. The exercises handed in by the students and corrected by the professor or the teaching assistant (individual and progressive work) are an essential part of the learning process.
Evaluation methods
a.    Continuous assessment (30% of the final grade) : progressive exercises on musical analysis during the whole semester;
b.    Written exam (70% of the final grade) : This exam consists of a theoretical part and a practical part (analysis exercise on a score, similar to the practical exercises done in class).

Attendance to the lectures is strongly advised. Submitting the exercises is compulsory.
