Main themes
Detailed notions of the Syriac grammar and literature. Alternately with LGLOR2645, this class deals with the following topics:
- translation and commentary of different historical, hagiographic and exegetic texts, especially hiostorical texts; exercises in manuscript reading (22h); - personal préparation and translation of texts read during class (8h).

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |

Content
The course intents to engross the knowledge and practical use of Syriac language and literature that was studied in the first cycle. In each course the texts are varying, they are from different historical epochs, and literary genres:
- reading of texts (history, hagiography, theology, popular literature from the 3rd to the 15th c.) by writers from Syria, Irak, the Lebanon, Turkey and Iran;
- grammatical analysis and tools for the textual criticism of editions;
- paleographic exercises of writing features in manuscripts.
Teaching methods
Students must prepare texts; there works will be discussed and improved in class.
Evaluation methods
There will be an oral exam at the end of the year: reading, translation and commentary of a text discussed to some extent during the course.
