Main themes
The courses aims to equip students with tools to analyze politics of development. It aims one hand, to familiarize with the theoretical approaches as well as the framework of analysis and interpretation of the political dimensions of development. On the other hand, it aims to give an insight of the power dynamics that have an impact on the types of development. It will analyze the evolution of power relations in different contemporary processes. For this course, students should write a scientific paper analyzing a development policy, using the analytical tools provided.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

To be able to analyze several sources of information, to identify important facts, to conceptualize and to communicate a critical thinking on development.

To develop abilities to critical reading on development policies

To be able to respect standards of scientific publication in development studies

To be able to collaborate in a critical and constructive way to produce a scientific publication in development studies

Content
The courses contents 8 classes, texts and a collaborative work on a personal paper.
The course analyses in a critical way, the concepts used in contemporary development politics and addresses globalization, ecological limits of growth, individualization of the responsibilities and discourses of development and the importance of networks in the construction of a policy. It proposes a critical posture on development policies and practices.
Every student will analyze a development policy. Another student will provide comments and suggestions and his/her draft (peer review process). The final work should respect standards of scientific publication in development studies.
Evaluation methods
The professor will evaluate the student on his final work, his draft and his participation to the peer review process.
