Main themes
The seminar focused on specific problems of interpretation in relation to the use of archaeological sources for the reconstruction of social and political relationships during the Iron Age and historical periods (Italy and Roman provinces) too.

Content
The main topic aimed during the year 2016-2017 will be ancient libraries in the Roman Mediterranean studied trough the information from urban planning, architecture and ways of life (territorial organization, economic, political and religious) of a Greco-Roman community.
Teaching methods
They can change year-over-year: considered the research developed in the field at UCL, students may berequired to attend lectures throughout the semester and make a critical analysis in the end.
The seminarcan also involve a trip to Rome or elsewhere inItaly: each student will have an individual research followed by an oral report on a city or an ancient monument.
The seminar also can be based on a detailed analysis of scientific papers on a specific topic with presentation (PPT) by students.

Evaluation methods
Continuous evaluation: seminars (50% points) and personal paper (50% points).
