Content
The course offers an overview of the evolution of the material culture through both the merovingian and the carolingian periods mainly in North West Gaul. The main topics considered are linked with the funerary archaeology and the burial customs, the rural settlements and the paleoenvironment, the (re-)developement of urban centers, the development of Christianity, the craft productions and the economical networks, the social interpretation of the material culture.
Teaching methods
Ex cathedra lecturing including guest lectures ; field, museums and exhibition trips may be linked with several topics of the course (NW paleochristian and early medieval archaeology in Europe).
Evaluation methods
Oral individual examination added to a written report based on a portfolio.
