Evaluation methods

(a) Legal translation workshop'Continuous formative evaluation of students' translations and evaluation for certification at the end of the teaching unit (written exam).
(b) Economic translation workshop'Continuous formative evaluation of students' translations and evaluation for certification at the end of the teaching unit through an exam.
(c) Scientific and technical translation workshop'Continuous evaluation of students' translations for certification (marks will be averaged to give the final mark). September exam: translation of a text on the topics dealt with in the course.

The marks of the different workshops will be averaged to give the final mark of the teaching unit.

Teaching methods

(a) Legal translation workshop'Preliminary reading of documents linked to course content. Translation of legal texts and documents with formative corrections. Individual and/or group work. Classroom sessions and partial use of e-learning.
(b) Economic translation workshop'Preliminary reading of documents linked to course content. Translation of economic texts and documents with formative corrections. Individual and/or group work. The course unfolds in both classroom sessions (theory, explanations, Q&A, corrections) and out-of-the classroom sessions (search for terminology/phraseology, practical exercises).
(c) Scientific and technical translation workshop'Practice-oriented and example-based teaching. Management and translation of texts with different scientific contents, difficulty levels, lengths and linguistic/drafting qualities. The course unfolds in both presential (theory, mission description, Q&A, corrections) and non-presential modes (search for terminology/phraseology, practical exercises, project finalisation).

Content

Translation of texts dealing with specialised topics in the legal, economic, scientific and technical fields.
(a) Legal translation workshop: law of contract, tort law, etc.
(b) Economic translation workshop: prosperity, austerity, local currencies, degrowth movement, financial securities, stock exchange transactions, banking and insurance, etc.
(c) Scientific and technical translation workshop'Translation of scientific texts in real-life professional situation; presentation of the topic; technical explanations and comments; documentary, terminological and phraseological research; management of translations done in groups: translation, merging, checking of terminological consistency and proofreading of final result. The translation should be of usable quality for a professional in the scientific/technical field.
