Teaching methods

The students will be introduced to the seminar topic by means of a discussion of critical articles and theories. They will produce their own analyses on the basis of the foregoing which will be the subject of an oral presentation and a discussion, as well as a written article.

Content

This seminar will explore contemporary literary forms of exploration of memory in a body of fiction and documentary films from Chile during the twenty-first century. The studied products are determined, in part, by the need to re-articulate the social memory of the dictatorship and post-dictatorship from new places of enunciation, which takes into account the tensions between the generations but also the new meanings of key concepts such as commitment and "militancia". Moreover, the image is a crucial component of collective memory. The seminar will explore the use of the image in the literary text and the status of archives in documentary films. Finally, we will focus on new narrative forms of representation of the traumatic experience and the national political transformation.
