Main themes

The seminar discusses specific problems related to the interpretation of contemporary art including the functions of art in certain institutional and social contexts.

Aims

The course will deepen the knowledge about the production and the aesthetic concepts in contemporary art.
It is the aim of the seminar that the student develops a critical sense and analytical methods as well as the ability to deal with a specific subject in contemporary art.

Evaluation methods

The students are evaluated on the basis of their active participation, a presentation, and a paper on a specific subject.

Teaching methods

Group work : Conception of an exhibition + oral papers.


 

Content

The course deals with artists' books in contemporary art since 1960 in relation with concepts of utopia.
The aim is the organisation of the exhibition « Elargir le champ du possible. Les utopies du livre d'artiste contemporain », that will take place at Halles universitaires, Salle de la Tapisserie from April 15 to Mai 05, 2016..
