Main themes

The dissertation (maximum of 150,000 characters, including spaces) should develop a hypothesis in a precise, clear and well-documented way, with the agreement of a supervisor.

Aims

By completing a individual final project, students will demonstrate their ability to develop a philosophical hypothesis which is well documented and argued.

In particular, they will demonstrate their ability to:
1) develop a philosophical topic and deal with it in an informed and coherent way.
2) make appropriate use of research tools by meeting prevailing academic criteria.
3) formulate a hypothesis and set out the underlying argument coherently, clearly and in a well-structured way.

The contribution of this Teaching Unit to the development and command of the skills and learning outcomes of the programme(s) can be accessed at the end of this sheet, in the section entitled “Programmes/courses offering this Teaching Unit”.

Evaluation methods

Written work is assessed by the supervisor and two readers.

Students are required to respond to questions put to them by their supervisor and two readers at an oral defense.
