This biannual course is taught on years 2014-2015, 2016-2017, ...
The assessment of this course involves:
1) The presence and regular and active participation of students in all sessions and activities led by the resident artist Françoise Schein during her workshop in Louvain -la- Neuve (Ateliers d'art de la Baraque).
2) The creative process of an artistic work as part of an exhibition in Louvain-la-Neuve and Brussels based on the artist's teaching and supervision. Students will have to produce a written and documented essay in which they will present and discuss the realization of their work, its design and the different stages of realization.
During the academic year 2016-2017, students will be requested to create a collection of artifacts inspired by topics that relate the history of the great discoveries to fundamental human rights. Each object will represent a concept related to these two main perspectives. Students will create their work on a porcelain plate painted with special oxides. The total number of plates that the students will produce will constitute a collection. By doing so, students are expected to become creators and will also be "mediators/ assistants/ambassadors" of the project led by Françoise Schein. Specifically they will create hundred plates under the guidance of the artist, then they will instruct other participants, residents of Louvain-la-Neuve (possibly disadvantaged people via the CPAS) as well as students in architecture from Saint-Gilles (LOCI Saint-Gilles). The latter will produce the same work as their fellows from Louvain-la-Neuve. They will work in turn with participants from the Brussels municipality (possibly the CPAS and Saint-Gilles Restos du c'ur) and produce another hundred plates.
At the end of the project, a banquet will be organized on one of two campuses with exhibition of the works created during the year.
The workshop sessions will mainly take place from October to December 2016. Students will nevertheless prepare the exhibition of their work during the second term of the academic year 2016-2017.
The evaluation will focus on the active participation of the students to the project and on the results of some exercises that they will be asked to realize. A synthesis and / or analysis of a specific point of the course can be requested to the students.
