Main themes

To meet these objectives, the course involves the following: - the first part is positive: from biblical documents and Christian tradition to Vatican II rituals and ecumenical agreements, the 4th book of Canon Law; the Christian rites of initiation in comparison with other initiations. - the second part is systematic: (1) The baptism as entrance into the church, the Trinitarian communion and the sacrament of faith; (2) The specific contribution of confirmation to Christian initiation; (3) The ethical dimension of the baptismal life.

Aims

By the end of the course, the student should be able to: - use the major sources and tools for baptism and confirmation; - set these sacraments in a theological context within the initiation to the Christian and church life and within the structure of the Church as the Body of Christ.

Content This lecture is about the sacraments of Christian initiation: baptism, confirmation, Eucharist. Going through the biblical, historical, liturgical and canonical sources, it describes how these sacraments make the Christian and build the Chuch as Body of Christ.
