Training course in a non-UCL information centre or library [ LSTIC9002 ]

10.0 crédits ECTS  200.0 h

Language French
Place
of the course
Louvain-la-Neuve
Prerequisites

to have completed the LSTIC9001 internship (internship in an UCL library)

Main themes

The internship takes place either in a public library, an academic library, a documentation centre, or a consultancy in documentation management.  In cooperation with the management of the host institution, students can observe the daily routine in the different departments (public reception and training, cataloguing and technical services, computer software, library buses if there are any and so on) and play an active part in it. They analyse the opportunities and the constraints of a library or a documentation centre and take part in current professional debates. They also contribute to the long-term thinking of the management by defining a precise issue for development, presenting the state of the art and putting forward one or more possible scenarios.  A description of the host library services (opportunities and constraint) and an audit review are the subject of an internship report which is defended orally before the readers of the report.

Aims

The internship enables students to take an in-depth look at management issues either in a public library, an academic library, a documentation centre or a consultancy in documentation management.
