Main themes |
The lecture will offer alternatively three types of learning process :
" the presentation, by the teacher, of the main dimensions of the selected theoretical framework;
" Students' personal reading of selected texts, aiming to develop their ability to critical reading and theoretical discussion, at an advanced level;
" The familiarisation to theoretical and sociopolitical debates surrounding this perspective (analysis of political debates in scientifical journals and in the press,
).
Students will be invited to read a selection of texts representative of the approach, in order to analyse them from a theoretical and epistemological perspective : how can they be situated within the main paradigms of social sciences? They will also be invited to pay attention to the specific argumentation building process, to the specific way of writing, to the " theory-data " balance and articulation, etc.
|
Aims |
The aim of this lecture is to enhance students' advanced theoretical abilities, through the thorough analysis of a significant author or theoretical approach.
Therefore, the lessons will help students to gain a detailed knowledge of the selected author or theoretical per-spective (which could vary throughout years and according to teachers in charge's preferences), which means :
" The presentation and discussion of the selected theoretical perspective (situation within the social sciences scene and within its social and historical context);
" The enhancement of an ability to analyse, in a thorough and critical manner, the main axes of a complex theoretical framework;
" An insight into the theoretical debates surrounding this author/perspective, and into their possible socio-political implications
" The enhancement of students' ability to defend an argumented position regarding these debates.
