Prerequisites

To have taken an introductory course on the Belgian Francophone literature.

Main themes

Working on a precise and delimited matter and corpus, it will be asked to present and use the analysing tools adequate in order to study pertinently the Belgian French-speaking Literature (in particular the specific tools). One will specially insist on the linguistic, historical and institutional context, on the affinities with the neighbouring countries, as well as the rising of the "Francophonies".

Aims

The competences to acquire are aesthetical, historical and political. Following the perspective of ROM 1523, this course will aim at studying thoroughly some questions chosen according to their pertinence in order to approach the Belgian French-speaking Literature, the socio-political context in which it has emerged and developed itself, as well as the specific questions bond to its teaching (questions of identity and history). At the end of this course, students will be able to give a detailed argumentation about the problems related to these specific questions, the way which they appear in a precise literary work.

Evaluation methods

Presentation of an individual assignment, oral examination.

Teaching methods

During the first classes, the lecturer presents the corpus, the contexts, the problematic and the patterns required to analyze the texts. Relying on this, the student produces a personal research, which is followed by the presentation and confronting of the papers, in a synthetic perspective.

Content

The course will be devoted to Belgian contemporary literature (1980-2009) ;

it focuses on four objectives :

1.analyzing the aesthetical singularity of the selected works

2.highlighting the characteristic touches linking them together

3.examining the validity of the critical labels under which they are designated

4.situating them in the historical contemporary context.
