Main themes This course takes place in a two years cycle. It alternates with course PSYM 2043 In-depth questions in psychology of religion: developmental approach. In the social approach, the objective is to examine, on one hand, the operation of the religious subject in its interpersonal relationships and in the context of group memberships, and on the other hand, the social psychology of the religious groups.
Aims To look further into specific questions of social psychology of religion with a special attention on questions about interdisciplinary interest and questions in relation with the professional practice based on the interaction between theoretical prospects and empirical studies.
Content - Impact of the religion on collective and multiple identities, stereotypes and exo-group discrimination. - Sectarian Groups: mechanisms of influence and psychology of the charismatic leaders - Religion and cognitive and social structures: dogmatism, fundamentalism, authoritarianism - Individual religion and social order: sexuality, marriage, work and politic ethics - Psychology of mysticism and socio-historical context - Psychology of the religious organizations - Psychology of the religious rites - Religion and inter-cultural psychology
