Prerequisites |
It is advisable that the student has followed the course LGLOR1541. If not, he will read a recent book on Chinese history (for example: J. Gernet, Le monde Chinois, Paris 2002).

Main themes |
Consolidation of the knowledge of the asiatic world, focused on China.
Alternating with LGLOR 2543, this course deals with different themes according to the year in question, but especially with the period prior to the 20th. Century. All the aspects of the history of the Chinese world may be touched on, in function of the contemporary events in the field.

Aims |
At the end of this course, the student will be familiar with the rigorous scientific approach to precise questions related to history of China.

Evaluation methods |
An oral and written exam on the subjects covered. An additional personal piece of work may be required.

Teaching methods |
Lectures, with, if appropriate, discussions on the basis of the reading matter and student presentations. Attendance at the lectures is indispensable.

Content |
The themes dealt with vary from year to year, but they deal essentially with the period prior to the 20th century. All aspects of the history of this geographic zone may be covered, especially the Chinese world in function of the current studies of the subject.
