Prerequisites

It is advisable that the student has followed the course LGLOR1542.

Main themes

Consolidation of the knowledge of the Asiatic world, focused on India.

Alternating with LGLOR2544, this course deals with themes of social and anthropological orientation, which vary from year to year, for example:

1. The question of untouchability;
2. The caste system;
3. The thoughts of Gandhi.

Aims

At the end of this course, the student will be familiar with the rigorous scientific approach to precise questions related to Indian culture.

Evaluation methods

Oral exam on the subjects dealt with in the lectures.

Lectures.

Content

The chosen theme will give rise to a deep study under many different apects. Thus, for the question of castes, the course studies the relationship between caste and politics, caste and the economy, contemporary evolution, relationships of parenthood etc. As regards untouchability, the course examines the life of Ambedkar, the contemporary studies, questions of ritual purity etc.

Regarding Gandhi, his life and thought will be examined from a critical point of view.
