Main themes

The lessons will be divided in two parallel parts: one part of the lessons will be given on Monday by Prof. Mark Hunyadi on 'The man and the technique' and another part of the lessons will be given on Friday by Prof. Délia Popa on 'Man and Society'. Prof. Hunyadi's lessons on Monday will treat about the different interpretations of the phenomena of the technique (from silex to smartphones) given in the XXth century, putting into light the philosophical, social and anthropological aspects of each approach. Prof. Popa's lessons on Friday will treat about the human relations founding society, from the communitarian relations to the moral and the juridical ones, aiming to give a general view on ethics. The different philosophical frames where these relations have been investigated and their specific concepts will be analyzed.

Aims

At the end of the lessons, the students will be able to approach the main challenges of these two main topics. They will also be aware about the different epistemological and conceptual fields concerned, developing in the same time a critical view. At the end of the semester, the students should be able to connect the two main topics elaborated in common by the teachers.

Evaluation methods

An optional mock exam will be proposed at the middle of the semester.

The final exam will be a written exam and it will concern equally the two studied topics.

Teaching methods

The lessons will be accompanied by several seminars (6x2heures) where the most important philosophical excerpts will be closely analyzed. The presence of all the students to these seminars is mandatory.

Content

The discussion thread of the course is primarily historical. After a methodological introduction and an introduction to the mythical thought, the course introduces Plato, Aristote, Saint Augustin, Thomas d' Aquin, Guillaume d' Occam, Machiavel, Hobbes, the rationalism of Descartes and Spinoza, the empiricism of Locke, Kant and philosophy transcendantale, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, Husserl, Heidegger, Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, insisting on anthropological and legal dimensions in the broad sense of the term.
