Content

This course is not about keeping abreast of international news but on how to report and comment world news.

Several subjects will be covered with the aim to address diverse geographical areas and themes.

The course will also present various forms of news (breaking news, ongoing conflicts, forgotten crises, diplomatic conferences, trends, etc.) as well as different forms of journalism (daily, journals, blogs, etc.)

 

Course description

Exercises of journalistic production on international issues

Editorial and news decisions

-Comparisons of coverage by different media (quality dailies, regional press, opinion or information magazines, new media, etc.)

-News selection (news, follow up, etc.)

-Discussions on 'angles'

-Selection of the mode of coverage (factual journalism, explanatory journalism, narrative journalism, photojournalism project, multimedia presentation, etc.).

 

Sources and fact-checking

-Techniques of fact-checking (source analysis)

-Search for alternative and complementary sources

-Development of the Rolodex

-Protection of sources

 

Glocalization

How to go from the local to the global and from the global to the local

 

International reporting assignments

The keys to organizing a reportage abroad

 

Freedom of the press and journalists' safety

Protection of journalists in countries at war, reporting in authoritarian states, rights and duties of journalists.
