  1. Various historical contributions to western architectural theory, e.g. the theories of classical orders, Modern movement theories, Avant-garde theories between the world wars, Modern movement crisis after 1945
  2. Connections between history of architectural theory and architectural history
Aims

At the end of that learning activity, the student is able to :

  • identify and describe the contributions of various periods to architectural theory
  • Compare these contributions
  • Discern among them continuities and ruptures
  • Distinguish the historical origins of contemporary architectural debates
  • Organize his or her own thoughts using concepts like tradition, style, type, archetype, language, functionalism, rationalism, composition and deconstruction.
