Main themes

This seminar is designed as a preparation for the corresponding master's seminar. The seminar will accordingly include an introduction to the type(s) of sites and documentary evidence studied.

Aims

By the end of this seminar, the student should be capable of putting the archaeological procedures into practice in the context of a documentary and critical study concerning a specific archaeological question.

Evaluation methods

Continuous assessment based on individual and group exercises (report writing, etc.), certificate works and two individual final works (one per period); attendance at courses is mandatory and will be checked.

In the case of a second exam registration, students would submit again their certificate works through the necessary corrections and clarifications.

Teaching methods

Supervision and monitoring of the various working groups in terms of organizing, structuring and formalization of work. The seminar also include a study trip involving students at different levels: organization, logistics, designing a program of visits and oral presentations of the researches.

Content

Introduction to personal work on an archaeological question.
During group sessions, based on preliminary personal work, each participant presents his analysis of a chosen case study or theme, paying particular attention to heuristic and critical aspects.
The procedures and phases of the treatment, as well as the global synthesis and conclusions, are communally constructed.
The individual research is guided by the professors and the assistant.
