Main themes

Students are expected to :

  • Acquire a command of the everyday and technical vocabulary used in Archeology, Art History and Musicology.
  • Adopt a heuristic approach and draw up a bibliography on a given subject.
  • Acquire the basic principles of bibliographic references and abbreviations.
  • Get an overview of the methodology employed in the study of archeological objects and works of art; be able to describe an archeological object or a work of art.
Aims

By the end of the course, students will be familiar both with the terminology employed in the fields of Archeology, Art History and Musicology and with the methods and principles of heuristics, bibliographic references, observing, describing and analyzing documents relating to Archeology and works of art. In addition, they will have been taught how to write, illustrate and present a piece of scientific work.

Evaluation methods

The activity assessment is based on three modes:
a) a continuous evaluation, on basis of six intermediate works spread on the two quadrimesters;
b) a research task, subject to an oral presentation and a written work in May;
c) two written exams, covering the course material and the practical works for the two quadrimesters.

A student who has not presented his or her final work, both orally and written, could be refused registration to the final exam.

In the event of a second registration, the student has to present the final exam again, as well as his or her final work if the grade, for the latter, is inferior to 50 percents.

Teaching methods

Alternation of theoretical course sessions and monitored practical works, in class or during field trips (museums and cities).

Practical exercises through the realisation of individual works.

Course material to study : syllabus, personal notes, power points presentations and documents handed during both class and practical works sessions.
