| Main themes |
In the first part, the course introduces the basic notions of genes, hormones and neurons and describes how endocrine and neurological processes interact in sexual behaviour.
In the second part, there is a critical examination of the main issues relating to the innate/acquired or nature/culture nature of sexuality.
In the third part, the course provides an overview of the causes of and treatments for infertility including an outline of various contraceptive methods and a brief review of the different genital pathologies and their impact on sexuality.

| Aims |
Anatomo-physiology of sexuality : to acquire the information necessary to understand all the biological, morphological and functional factors underlying human sexual behaviour.
Psycho-physiology of sexuality : to understand human sexuality from the perspective of the links between its somatic and psychological aspects by developing a critical attitude, thus avoiding biological reductionism and excessive psychologization.
Regulation and pathology of reproduction : to cover the different aspects of human reproduction, its regulation through contraception and infertility treatments, medical and surgical pathology with consequences for sexuality. Students are not required to deal with these pathologies but to understand them and be able to advise and support those who suffer from them.

| Content |
Content : there are three equal parts.
Part 1 : anatomo-physiology of sexual reproduction and reaction depending on prerequisites.
Part 2 : psycho-physiology of different stages of sexuality in life (puberty, parentality, menopause, andropause, senescence) and critical examination of biological determinism in identity and sexual orientation.
Part 3 : fertility and infertility, contraception, diseases of the genital system.
Methods : lectures, discussions, assignments and research.

Prerequisites : students who have taken the foundation year will have a basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. For others, a reading folder is available.
Assessment : the methods of assessment will be explained by the lecturer(s) in charge at the beginning of the course.
