Philosophy [ LSC1120 ]

Metaphysics : the question of being and that of he place of man on earth. Ethics : the notions of moral action, good and bad, responsibility and duties of man to nature and the planet. Logic : concepts, judgements, reasonings, difference between extension and intention, truth and validity notions.

Psychology To give the students studying sciences an introduction to the big questions of anthropology, being particularly careful to articulations between man and the living world : differences and continuity, human specificity, rights and duties of man. Logic Introduction to contemporary mathematical logic by the use of philosophical problematic.

The assessment consists solely of a written exam. The latter includes a series of open questions on various parts of the course. The student must be able to show a deep understanding of the various topics covered in the course.

The lecture has three parts. In the first part, we will present different conceptions of science and tackle some logical issues regarding the distinction between extension and intension of a concept, the truth of a judgment and the correctness of a reasoning. In the second part, we will mainly investigate the different philosophical meanings of the words "Being" and "Nature". In the third part, we will discuss the concepts of moral action and moral norm, and the dichotomy between determinism and freedom.
