Main themes

Whatever the subject, the final assignment enables the student to
'    Formulate a research question or issue;
'    Gather and organise data using disciplinary tools acquired during the two years of prior training ;
'    Carry out bibliographical research connected to the topic in question and exploit existing sources to respond to the research question ;
'    Analyse and interpret the data, with the help of methodologies acquired during the two years of prior training ;
'    Compose an individual text in a clear, organised and logical way. Correction of language will be taken into account in the assessment. The assignment should contain approximately 30,000 characters, including spaces, but not including lengthy quotations and the bibliography.

Aims

Students will complete a final assignment in the area of their choice: this is an important stage in their introduction to personal research. It is done under the direction of one or more supervisors, members of the permanent academic and research staff responsible to the relevant programme committee. Students choose one of the possible topics which are presented at the beginning of each academic year by the potential supervisors. The preparation and presentation of the research form the subject of group work sessions.

Evaluation methods

The final assignment is supervised and assessed by a supervisor.

It is assessed according to the following criteria :

  • achievement of stated objectives
  • ability to make a relevant and well documented synthesis
  • individual effort and the ability to discuss methodological options
  • consistency of work - accuracy, quality and relevance of the writing.
