of the course
Louvain-la-Neuve
Main themes The course will propose developments of several parts of the basic course of criminal procedure, for which only the elementary concepts could be taught within the framework of a first degree course. Topics such as time-barred prosecutions, special investigation techniques and the use of remedies will be studied in detail. The other topics covered will vary each year, according to the recent legislative and judicial developments.
Aims The course aims at supplementing the training of the students in criminal procedure and proposes to examine a number of questions which could not be considered in details during the basic course. Three specific objectives assigned with the course are: - to familiarize the students with the most recent legislative and jurisprudential developments in criminal procedure; - to give them a pragmatic vision of the concrete problems encountered by the actors of criminal justice; - to develop their critical sense and to make them sensitive to respect of human rights in the organization and functioning of criminal justice.
