In-depth study of Classical Greek Grammar.

This course deals with the following themes:

1. Morphology (advanced level);
2. Specific structures of Classical Greek;
3. Personal translation of three Greek texts of a substantial length (cursory reading).

At the end of the course, the student will be capable to translate and analyse any Greek prose texts in Attic or Ionian. He will be proficient in morphology, will have mastered the particular grammatical structures of Classical Greek (including translation from French into Greek at an advanced level) and will know the rules of Ancient Greek accentuation.

Evaluations are organised at regular intervals during the year.
The final exam, which includes a written part and an oral part, evaluates the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the student, including translation from French into Greek.

Lectures coupled with exercises (translation from Greek into French and from French into Greek).

Systematic study of the specific grammatical structures of Classical Greek. The constructions studied will be illustrated by a linguistic analysis of sentences and extracts from classical texts. This course also includes exercises in prose composition as well as the individual translation of Classical Greek texts of substantial length (cursory reading: a speech by Demosthenes, extracts from Herodotus and a dialogue by Lucian).
At regular intervals there will be tests on vocabulary and morphology.
