· Preparation and deepening of one's knowledge of the subject matter through these readings.

Content

C. Modern Era
Based on the knowledge gained from the course "Historical Foundations of Western Civilisation I", the course will contemplate three thematics that are related to various (political, economic, social and cultural) fields of History and selected for the understanding of contemporary Western society they provide. The first thematic will be devoted to the phenomenon of religious reformations in the 16th century and to their political and societal impact. The second developed thematic will address the Habsburg's Empire and European hegemonic temptations between the 16th and the 18th centuries. The third thematic will deal with the rebellions and revolutions that stirred Europe and the American colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries.

D. Contemporary Period
The part dealing with the Contemporary Period focuses on: the important worldviews (ideologies and collective representations) of the 19th and 20th centuries, their evolution in historical contexts, and their political, economic, and social implications; revolution and wars, and their consequences on collective memory, national identities, and relationships with others.
